Pitch contest draws Mass. entrepreneurs

EforAll (short for Entrepreneurship for All) South Coast hosted its second Pitch Contest of the year, “All Ideas,” at the Police Athletic League Hall in Fall River April 26.

The event brought in entrepreneurs from Fall River and New Bedford and from as far away as Cape Cod and Revere. Six of the business were pre-selected to give a two-and-a-half minute pitch for cash prizes, while two others were chosen that night as a “wild card” and “table favorite.”

Judges were community business leaders Anthony Hernandez, Tanya Rivera-Falcone, Kevin Maillet and Karen Wood.

The prize winners were:

First Place: Naan Americans, $1,000

Supriya Shekar of Newton has created Naan Americans, a community-building platform that enables and empowers local passionate home cooks to host classes, share culture and earn money on their own terms while enlightening culinary interests of others.

Second Place and Fan Favorite: Quest! Therapeutic Adventure Game for Social Skills Mastery, $750 and $500

Krysten Callina and Evan Colbert of Swansea, MA created the first original tabletop role playing game designed for kids with autism to encourage social skill development. Future plans are to design a starter kit for therapists and educators to use as well.

Third Place: MAKOMAS, $500

Magbe Savane of Revere created a company that manufactures and sells natural and organic food and beverage products that give back to African farmers who cultivate and harvest some of the raw ingredients.
